The 2 halves of the RR have been seperated, so I can work on all sides. Here's an overview of the support structure for the mountains and terrain.

You can see in this area the base for a creek, a dirt road, sheep loading pens, and a couple of structures. The flat area on the left will also get a structure - that's still on the bench being built.

The timber trestle bridge is the only structure that can't be removed at this point. Have to be really careful not to bump it!

Just around to the left of the trestle, there's a "natural bridge" arch that the track passes thru.

A little further around is a water tank.

And then the recently abandoned silver mine.

Then into a tunnel.

I built a little testbed to try different methods of scenery construction before I do each step on the RR. This is a few steps ahead, it has the plaster gauze applied over the cardboard webbing, then cast rocks applied, and plaster terrain base. The plaster gauze I use is the same stuff used for making casts on a broken arm or leg.

Here are some molded rocks, doing color tests. I'm going with the reddish color primarily, and some will be the grey/yellow. There will be many color variations in the finished mountains, but these 2 are primary.

Next I'll be applying the plaster gauze over all the cardboard webbing, and casting more rocks for the next step.
